For most of us being away from home, whether you realize it or not, your
expertise in culinary has become better than before. At least, for me.. I began to learn to cook and getting around the kitchen longer that I used to be when still living back home in Indonesia. Since the year 2000, when I start living and working in New York, as those burgers and other fast food really bore me a lot, which I also need to mention that they [eating out and taking Chinese take-outs] really burn my pocket deep!.
Looking up recipes from the net and calling-up my mom back home, which is 10-11 hours ahead – just to ask how to cook this and that, and why is the hell it turned out to taste worst-and stuffs had made me a bit more proficient with my cooking skills. Further to trials and error, as I push myself to undertake mission’s assignment – it all went out well, at least those instant seasonings can make your tummy really happy and the longing for home-style meals are similarly compensated, which to include making your housemate in the mission getting a better acquainted with the Indonesian Culture through its dishes.
Here in Liberia, I am glad to have someone whose curious enough to
accompany me while doing things at the kitchen, meet my housemate, Antonio. Though he’s not much of a great help, but at least I’ve got a great cooking companion – just like on those TV’s cooking show, he’s my culinary assistant trying to explain to me how to cook using the Bumbu Inti.
However, I could not comprehend better of his Indonesian translation… can
you help me by listening to what he said?
