Surya Aslim
Surya Aslim has been working in the development field since April 2004. The Aceh Tsunami brought major change to his career. Within a fortnight, he was involved in the Tsunami humanitarian response operation at that time with British NGO Islamic Relief. His Aceh’s relief tour of duty earned him Project Manager post for Islamic Relief Bangladesh, where he managed a Disaster Risk Reduction project, funded by ECHO (European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office). Surya spent one year (2006-2007) in Bangladesh, mostly in Sylhet – the northeastern part of the country. Shortly after completing his Bangladesh assignment, he joined United Nations Office of the Recovery Coordinator for Aceh and Nias (UNORC), where he served as Head of Field Office for Nias and Lhokseumawe (2007-2009). His humanitarian work continues through his present assignment in Myanmar. He is now working as Recovery Coordination Liaison Officer for ASEAN Humanitarian Task Force, ensuring smooth coordination of recovery efforts in Yangon Division, Myanmar. Surya shares great interest in reading books and photography.
