Peacekeepers: Who and what we do

Who is .. ?

Bryan Lee

University student, Bryan Lee, was born on September 7th 1986 in Sydney, Australia and currently resides in Melbourne. He is currently undertaking his final honours year of Bachelor of Industrial Design at Monash University. For his yearlong final assignment he has chosen to design a vehicle which contributes to the needs of humanity. His project involves designing a futuristic approach to efficiently transport needed supplies to disaster zones. The design includes a truck like vehicle and a large supply unit that has the capability to transform into a temporary housing unit. As well as meeting humanitarian needs the concept will also provide insight to a more UN driven design in the future. This assignment will be completed in mid November where it will be displayed in an exhibition at Monash University. He is very honoured to be sharing his concept to UN peacekeeping correspondents and will like to thank Luigi Pralangga for his continuous help and the opportunity for this. Please feel free to view Bryan’s progression and provide any advice or opinions on his blog.

Aid Necessities Transporter (A.N.T.) Part 4
Part 4 of the Aid Necessities Transporter (A.N.T.), After the design was completed, we were required to build a physical model. Milled out ABS was used for the main sections of the vehicle, and the tyres were press molded rubber. For the more detailed parts such as the rims, Objet Rapid Prototyping was used. After approximately 3 weeks, the 600mm long model was built. The painting was then done locally at a car paint garage and car paint was used. Finally, for ease of transportation and flexibility of posing the vehicle, i used magnets to connect each arm, allowing me to raise and lower the vehicle at my own will. More importantly, this allowed me to easily disassemble my vehicle.

Aid Necessities Transporter (A.N.T.) Part 3
The wheels and suspension on the A.N.T is a vital part of the design. Being individually powered, this allows the vehicle to travel on all terrain as well raising or lowering itself if needed. In addition, the ability to lower and raise the vehicle also plays a vital role in loading and unloading the supply unit.

Aid Necessities Transporter (A.N.T.) Part 2
In this Rapid mode, the vehicle will be travelling at great speeds back to headquarters to load up a supply unit. With its head rotated down, it centres the gravity on the vehicle, allowing it to be more safe, efficient and agile. Having large wheels and unique all terrain suspension this mode allows the vehicle the ability to travel anywhere. In addition, the function and mentality of the vehicle in rapid mode is also shown through its aesthetics. It is seen to give the feeling of speed and all terrain.

Aid Necessities Transporter (A.N.T.)
Everyday we are witnessing unavoidable effects of the global climate crisis more and more. The disasters created by this phenomenon are impacting all parts of the world and due to this, there is a high need for quick and effective aid response for those suffering areas. The A.N.T (Aid Necessities Transporter) is designed for humanitarian organizations such as the United Nations for transportation of food, water, medical supplies and housing units to disaster stricken areas. Having swift as well as all-terrain capabilities, the A.N.T incorporates a new efficient system of distribution running on two modes of transportation.
