Betel Vine and Areca Nut (sirih -pinang), are among the most important products in Timor. They are being use in many cultural rites and consumed daily by the people here. It’s the most favourite things for all the people here from common villagers to officers in public service office.

People do greet the guest(s) differently from culture to another.. they use symbol represented by articles we use in daily life.
While in Liberia, dances and accompanied by traditional instrument orchestra are one common form to honor the guest(s).
With such welcoming reception, I am sure that you were regarded as one special guest for them. :D
Sirih is only consumed by Grannies in my hometown…. somewhere in south sulawesi.
In my culture, Bugis, we greet the guest with a dance called “Padduppa”. While dancing, the dancer will throw rice to the guest, means that we accept the guest.
