For most of us whose already in their 2nd year of assignment in the mission, usually the thought of mobility often pops-up into concerns. It is easier said than done, when it comes to career planning and where the next move is.

I know that I am one of the concerned ones. Being here over 4 years have made me seriously thinking and engaging into efforts making mobility to happen. Assignment in peace operations are a non-fixed appointments, as situation on the ground gets better, more and more troops and further military presence are downsized.
The mission understood about that and have recently cater the needs for mission’s staff withe their career aspirations. Planning the next step to a successful career in or out of the United Nations environment with the help of the Career Development experts is a bold new approach and surly this would further easen my search of my next big thing.
The administration supported this service and through the mission training center, IMTC (Integrated Mission Training Center) began a new service available for all UNMIL staff and for a career quick chat, we are requested to make ana appointment to come at these times:
Mondays to Wednesdays – From 9 AM to 12 PM
Thursdays and Fridays – From 2 PM to 5 PM
For a longer meeting (more than 15 minutes), staffs are advised to book an appointment. The services are developed based on these main career planning steps:
1. Learning about yourself; Self-exploration and insight into their unique characteristics, preferences, skills and qualifications will give clients the ability to make well-informed decisions about their career choices.
2. Exploring Careers; Helping mission’s staffs to investigate all of their options and to gather information about the nature of different types of work through print and online resources.
3. Taking Action & Before jumping into a job hunt; mission’s staffs should develop and implement an action plan to ensure they are searching effectively.
4. Practical Support; Are you up to date?. Then the mission’s staffs is assisted in writing and reworking their CV’s, (Personal History Profile) PHP’s and Application letter to give mission’s staffs a head start.

I guess, now the ball is on my side to really revamp my details, and ensuring that my best qualities are well-represented on the CV and PHP. Have you guys updated your papers, lately? – That’s probably why your job application has yet made any impact on those advertised post.
Mobility is one of the benefits of career in organizations with global operations, like the United Nations and many more, and in order to ensure a smooth maneuver, I guess everyone must implement a proper preparation.

Get them updated and for folks outside the United Nations System, I would welcome you to join us, serving for peace.
