Independence Day Anniversary at Sudan

23 August 2007, 00:05 , by Imelda TJAHJA

Well, I’m not that good as a story teller but since Luigi has asked me for so many times to do it so let me take this opportunity to tell something…

Last night there was a diplomatic function of Republic of Indonesia 62nd Independence Day Anniversary which was held by Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan. The function was quite fancy I must say… It was at Al-Rotana Hotel (newest 5 star hotel in Khartoum), I felt like to be at one of five star hotels in Jakarta.

The function was attended by four Sudanese Ministers and some Ambassadors from other countries such as India and Eritrea. I was very surprised to know that there are a lot of Indonesians who are currently working and studying in Sudan.

Indonesian Ambassador delivered the opening speech then followed by Indian and Eritrean Ambassadors. There were also some traditional dancings which performed by Indonesian children and students in Sudan.

The food was also quite tasty! There were satay, krupuk, empek-empek Palembang and many other Indonesian cuisine which reminded us to our home
 country.

Thanks to Indonesian Embassy in Sudan, this event also gave us opportunity to meet another Indonesians who are working in the regions (outside Khartoum).

Imelda TJAHJA Imelda Tjahja She has joined United Nations since 2003. Currently she is serving United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). Prior to her joining the UNMIS, she was assigned to United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and United Nations Mission in East...

Kinshasa, Aku Datang!
